GPS/Radar Best Mounting Location

GPS/Radar Best Mounting Location
So I purchased a GPS for the Bravada and I'm also looking at a Radar Detector but with all of the GPS thieves around here, I'd like to find a place (mostly for the GPS) where they'll be out of site or, at least, less noticable from the outside of the vehicle...
I've seen some hard-wired mods for Radar detectors near the rear-view and visor area, but wouldn't that affect the Laser/Radar detection range? What about the GPS? Do you HAVE to mount them on the windshield? I'd love to mount it somewhere less conspicuous...
Any ideas would be appreciated.

If you want to cut and mod, I suppose you can put it in the dash. If you read the basic instructions that come with the Garmin, TomTom, and other brand-name GPS systems, mount it on your windshield, then take it with you or lock it in the glove box when you leave your car.

Avoid the windshield. Those mounts leave a ring on the glass that is viewable from the outside, I know that's how a lot of the people around my area get theirs stolen. They will take it inside or in the glove box, but that ring is a sign that says smash the window and take a look around. And as far as I know, those GPS units have to have clean sight of the sky to work.

Yes, they do. I know Best Buy and Toys R Us sell a little pad you can put on your dashboard, and then set the suction cup mount on that. If you get that pad for 10 bucks you can then just put the pad away with the GPS an nobody is any wiser.
