Default Help in the Matthews, NC area. (Charlotte)

Looking for some help getting my 2000 blazer 4.3 into time. Willing to trade a really nice condition hp pavilion ryzen 3700u touchscreen laptop. i paid $900 have receipts. She's barely been used. Bought with upgraded ram and storage. I'm out of cash so I'm hoping to barter.

She ran fine besides dropping oil pressure. Figured I'd start with the sensor and snowballed into this.

Need the truck to start so I can work. I changed the oil pressure sensor, so I had to remove the distributer . Bought a new rotor and cap for it. Previous one was corroded. I pulled the spark plug from cylinder 1 used a screwdriver to feel the piston at tdc, lined up the two marks on the harmonic balancer at the same time. I set the oil pump to a preemptive spot alot with having the rotor cap preset. The rotor cap lined up to the (6) after everything slid in nicely, i got a small back fire today like She's getting combustion. Yesterday I was only getting a consistent turn over with no backfire. Been apart 8 times and all over YouTube University looking for guidance.
Thank you all- Ryan

Default Setting initial timing

Oh boy. One of the things many of us learn the hard way is to not turn the crank after we pull the distributor and to mark the position of it before pulling it.

Since you are past that, the best I can do is suggest that you look for threads on setting the initial timing. I believe there could be a relearning by the ECM that may be necessary so that the crank sensor is triggered correctly.

I've attached a scan I made once of how to install the distributor on a 1999 4.3L. I hope this helps.

Is it possible that you have Piston 1 positioned top dead centre on the exhaust stroke? It needs to be TDC on the compression stroke.

Remove the spark plug and hold your finger or thumb over the spark plug hole. Rotate the engine until you feel compression building. This is the compression stroke. Then continue to rotate the engine, line up the timing marks on the balancer, and have a look at the rotor. It will be 180 degrees out if it was installed on the exhaust stroke.

I forgot to ask what brand of rotor and cap yoy used. The conventional wisdom on the forum is that only GM parts will work well.
