under the dash, above the brake pedal is a small toggle switch and a push button. What are these for?

Sounds like an aftermarket security system or remote start. Pretty typical place to mount the switches.

Ah alright I was thinking the button on the brake itself. I just went through the disaster that was my aftermarket alarm last week and ripped it all out
From this

To this

With all this removed! (Part of it is from my sunroof wires but most was the alarm)

OMG! What a disaster. It's a nightmare waiting to happen. And to think people spend hard earned money on that junk. You would think they could at least eliminate the excess wire, instead of just stuffing it all in there. Looks like they used a whole roll of tape! Too bad those things are such cheap quality, and cause so many problems. I guess it's something people feel they need, until they find out how many problems they cause. Nice job cleaning up the mess!
