I need help please A.S.A.P Whats this noise
2002 Jimmy 4x4
Hi all
About two days ago I heard this Clunk so we went home as we didn't know if it was serious as we were going to the City, Well today I heard it again.
But It just got worse and was making a high pitch screling noise when doing about 80KM or 70KM Now its not when you hit every bump either the clunk happens.
Its like every other one, I really think the one shock is blown as it really sounds like that, But I've been told its the stabilizer link
But when I look at it threes nothing wrong with it either
the truck still drives straight etc
Just wondering what this clunk is and what is this really loud noise I'm getting

I'd start by pulling the front wheels and having a look at everything up front.

^^^Disagreed. I got three quotes to replace both front hub bearings in Central PA. They break down as follows:
Shop 1:
Parts: 238/pc, 576 total
Labor: 150 for both sides
TOTAL: $769.56
Shop 2:
Parts: 519.98/pr
Labor: 175 for both sides
TOTAL: $750 with shop fees, etc.
Shop 3:
Parts: 150/pr
Labor: 120 for both sides
TOTAL: $290
Now Shop 2 I know for sure was quoting me for Timkens (the preferred brand). Not sure if Shop 1 was or just buying the cheap ones and charging for the expensive ones. Shop 3 clearly isn't using name-brand Timkens.
Was the $377 for one bearing or both? And is that for a replacement with GM parts? A lot of members on here will ONLY go Timken. Hanr3 even has a write-up for a DIY here. Labor seems to be in the right ballpark, unless it's only for one side. My listed labor costs are for both sides, so cut that in half it's only one. Although most would recommend replacing both at the same time.
Your best bet, if the Dealer will allow you to purchase your own parts and have them install, would be to visit Jigg's site (SynergyOffroad) and purchase some of his bearings. He has mentioned that they are made by the same company as Timken but without the name-brand packaging. Feel free to PM him with any questions, he's pretty good at getting back to you.

Most dealers would not install anything unless its a GM part and purchased from them because they use the corporate line that they warranty their work and parts. It's always worth ashot tho. I would just purchase the parts myself and take the truck to another mechanic since you now know what is wrong with the truck.
Guess What
The final Bill was $643.00
Yep GM got me
And the sick thing is the right side wasn't even the problem it was the Drivers side,But the passenger sides bearing fell apart when they were taking it off it was very lose they said.
The Drivers side is very tight still they said but still makes one hell of a Noise going down the road So the problem still was not really fixed.
But I'm glad the wheel won't fall off now on the Passengers side and have it pass me on HWY
