Oh dear God. Did everyone else cringe when he started that up?
I'd have to go with rod bearings as well. Check the drain plugs magnet for shaving or maybe even chunks in this application. I know very little of the bearing is iron but there should be some.
I changed mine out fairly easily when the front diff was out. Although you probably have mains damaged as well & that's a whole different route to repair.
Just the rod bearings could get another "slow & steady" season though & their not pricey for some Clevite 77's.

Is it your 88 GMC that has the bad engine or another truck that you have?If its the 88 GMc you could drop another engine in it easy as cake. That is if the vehicle is worth it.Not sure where you live but used engines are cheap in my kneck of the woods.

Lucas wont help
I know i can get engines cheap and yes it is the 88 k2500. If i had a dam job it wouldnt be a problem putting a motor in it.
Motor would be out already.

Sorry to find out about your misfortune of being out of work. The same situation is why my project has taken as long as it has.Im fortunate enough to have an income just not enough though.

So I sold my k2500 and bought an other... A guy offered me 1000 for the truck with the plow and I took it.
I bought an 92 k1500 extended cab and a Used plow setup.
Truck has some bad dents on the cab but those can be fixed... She has 122k on her and runs like a charm and shifts really good. All she needs is some body work Exhaust donut on the passenger side and an temp sending unit.
Gotta admit ITs a smaller truck but same motor and drive tran and im loving the new truck. I only payed 900 for the truck and 300 for the plow.
