Mirrors
This morning I had to once again replace my driver's side mirror on my '97 Jimmy. The mechanic replaced the old one just last month with a used one from the parts yard. That one jiggled and then broke off; this one is brand shiny new and was FREE. (A+++ mechanic!) I had already replaced the passenger side mirror years ago, when I first got the Jimmy. Long story short, this is the THIRD mirror I've had to replace! (A lady ran into the first mirror with her shopping cart in the Costco parking lot a year or two ago, which I duct taped back together as a temporary fix.) But wow--General Motors sure didn't put much money or engineering into their mirrors, did they! Cheapie quality!

I did my mirror a couple months back. But on the highway it vibrates a little bit. Maybe I didn't cinch the nuts down tight enough.
The old mirror was missing one of the three nuts. So I had to build a new nut by epoxying a small nut with the correct thread on top of a larger 10 mm nut (with the wrong thread). Of course that is a bit slip-shod so later I grabbed a nut of the right size at the wreckers. I probably didn't torque the nut enough to avoid breaking the epoxy, and it still needs to be replaced. Next time the door panel is off I guess.
A new mirror was $35 CDN from Amazon and $35 from the wrecker. So of course I bought the new one. Who knows, maybe the motor or the heater wouldn't work on a used mirror.
