Default My "Duh" Moment

It's been a very busy month for me. August is usually a little bit slower but I've been working constantly this month and have only had a couple days off for the whole month. That's not so bad; I like making money. However, all the work has me pretty worn out.

Tuesday I hopped in the '98 Jimmy to go to the store for some groceries for dinner. It wouldn't start. All the lights came on and there was power but no crank. Frustrated, I went back in the house and got the keys for my '93 Sonoma and went to the store.

I needed the Jimmy for a gig this evening so I decided to check it out a little to see if I could get it started. My first guess was a failing neutral safety switch so I figured I would wiggle the shifter around to see if I could make contact and get the truck started. When I looked down at the console shifter I discovered the problem: I left the Jimmy in Drive when I shut it off! I put it in Park and it started right up.

On the good side, I didn't have to get under the Jimmy to fix it.

I assume you leave your keys in the ignition?

That happened to a lot of times mostly when I drop the column on my blazer to take apart the dash and when I replaced the column on my dad f150 I was connecting the indicator cable didn't notice that it was in drive didn't find out til the next day. Sucks when you do stuff tired.

No, but I did wire up a bypass switch for the key release solenoid because the switch on the shifter doesn't work reliably. That allows me to shut the truck off while it's still in drive, as i demonstrated earlier in the week.
