Need your opinions!
So I'll be driving up to Jersey on the 27th, and I'm debating rather I should drive the Blazer. I was looking at renting a car at first, would cost approx. $120 for all 4 days, but then figured why not just take the Blazer and save that $140.
But what I'm curious about is do you think it would be cost efficient to just drive my truck, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have any troubles at all getting up there and back, (total of about 1000 miles give or take).
I figured that if I rent a car, I'll be paying the $120, plus gas. But in the truck, just the gas, which would actually probably equal out to approx. $120?
Just wanted some opinions, it's easier to make decisions when you hear what other people have to say.

It's more than simple math.
Rental car 1000mi @ 35 mpg = 28.5 gal
Blazer 1000mi @ 20 mpg = 50 gal
- concept is if you drive the rental same as you would to get 20 mpg in blazer you'll get 35mpg.
diff 21.5 gal x $4 = $86. Thus the true cost of rental is $34
But here's the difference. You arent going to enjoy the trip if you at all think the old girl might break down. Road breakdowns are expensive as hell and it's not smart to take a trip in your own car without at least $500 available to cover it. More like $1500.
If the rental breaks down, typically the most you lose is one days meals and hotel costs. Of course you'd be lucky to get away with only one day in case of Blazer breaking down.
Rental breaks down: Annoyance- adventure
Blazer breaks down: Torture and test of character.

My answer is I have a 93 tbird and a 99 bravada. I pay close attention to how they run.
For trips of less than 1000 mi I dont worry about the Brava. For 1000 - 2000 miles, tossup. For over 2000 miles, I would be lots more confident in the Tbird.
- The reason I have that much confidence in the Brava is I put the Delphi fuel pump in, myself.
