Default No crank cold condition

Just wanted to see some thoughts on my issue not with a Blazer but a ranger.my Blazer had a brake line pop so was getting my extra vehicle out the 03 Ford ranger to drive as I fixed the blazer. Got the ranger running and ready for work the following day started and everything fine about 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Following morning I goto start it and nothing no click nothing about -5 degrees today messed with it a while then decided to run a trigger starter button from battery positive to signal post on starter rolled right over. Now it starts every time with the key. Just wondered what anyone thought about why that would happen possible bad ground. Any thoughts are appreciated I don't like wiring and don't understand it the best definitely mechanically inclined not electrically. On a side note the 01 blazer did the same thing in the summer key wouldn't work trigger would I figure whatever causes it isn't specific to one vehicle.
