Now This Is RICH!
I bought my 97 jimmy to replace my 96,since I had so many new parts in the 96 and I had to swap body parts as well,I farmed some of the work out to a local shop. When I got this jimmy at 143K I found after an inspection it needed a complete brake overhaul.I already had in my stock new rotors, calipers, pads, shoes, wheel cylinders and rear hardware kit.so in my mind it was easier to spend $250 to let a shop do it and not spend several hours on my back in my driveway. Fast-forward 2 1/2 years: soft pedal developed and suspected the Master,as no leaks were evident,so since I don't have the scan tool for the ABS I again chose this shop. Went to pick it up and the total was only$60! I said:WHAT? they said who ever installed the rear brakes last put the adjusters in backwards and installed the primary shoes to the rear-hence the soft pedal. When I informed them that they did the job they balked and said that could not have happened.I had to drive home(in my brothers F150) and produce the receipt! They were able to tell that an inferior tech worked on my unit and he was no longer working for them and countered with $40-I said NO! I will pay for shop supplies only! $10 Well thats what I got! Surprises me that this problem didn't manifest itself for 47K miles either! Note to all: keep all receipts of any shop work! You never know when you will need it!
agreed! i think this might be my only saving grace when i get the call monday from the mechanic that put in my fuel pemp in...i have a receipt box in my truck from all the work done to it from tires to oil changes to major overhauls. the glove box doesnt hold it all now, but its in a shoe box in the bed of the truck. mechanics are wrench turners...sometimes they see dollar signs more then they see a repeat customer! protect yourselves!!!
