Default pause when starting

Hi guys and gals, been awhile since i have been here. Anyway lately when i start my vehicle (98LS, 4.3, 4WD, 123,000 miles) it will crank 2 or 3 times then theres a bump where i lose power (radio/clock go off, dash lights go out) for a split second then cranks normal. Thinking maybe starter or ignition switch. Any ideas? Thanks Tom

Make sure that the battery cables are clean and tight as well as the battery ground. Have the battery load tested. If you still have the problem then pull the crank fuse and go through the ignition switch motions a bunch of times. If you still have theproblem it depends on how fancy you want to get Either get a probe on one of the power inlet wires to the ignition switch to see if power stays stable there to formally indict the ignition switch or go straight for an ignition switch replacement which would be a good educated guess. If the crank fuse experiment fixes the problem, have the starter tested.
