My first car was a 54 Packard Clipper, a big 4 dr sedan, enough room in the back for 4 on the seat a a few on the floor. My next was a 55 Mercury Monterey 2 dr hardtop, with a built T-Bird 312 4bbl. My first engine rebuild in auto shop.
Atleast the truck didnt catch fire to the engine and destroy the entire cab while blocking off a 4 lane highway with smoke (My first vehicle 91 Dodge Dakota Sport)
But i agree with almost everyone here, just replace the motor if there isn't many other underlying issues. Plus if you say get one from a junkyard you can get it rebuild while it is still out of the truck and have basically a brand new motor for not even close to the price of a new motor.
