Hey there,
I have a 1993 Chevy blazer (5.7tbi, 4x4, automatic, 2 dr, grey cloth interior) with 75k original miles. It has been sitting for several years in a neighbor’s yard. I bought it to fix it up a bit and sell it.
I have replaced the full front suspension, calipers, rotors, brakes all around, brake lines, shocks all around, plugs, wires, headlights, and new tires.
I am debating whether I should have it painted OR leave the original paint? The body is near flawless. No rust and only 1 tiny dent. I’m thinking the benefit to leaving it as is, is that the buyer can see it is original paint and not repainted ever. Also, they can do a color change if desired.
The benefit to repainting is that the car will be near mint. (The interior is in excellent condition, verifying the mileage) Potentially I can sell it for a little more profit, but not sure.
I’m interested in your opinion and thoughts. What would you prefer to buy? Have you been in this position as a seller and know which is the better route?
Any input on pricing would be appreciated as well.
Thanks!
This is what I was going to say. Spend an afternoon and 20 bucks polishing and waxing it. If it looks better, great. If not, you aren't out much. Personally, I don't think a paint job will pay for itself with an increased sale price. Just my opinion, though.
Buffing/polishing compound may do wonders, providing the clear coat isn't gone. If the clear coat is gone on the faded areas, I'd repaint the whole thing. That is if you are going to keep it.
Otherwise, sell as is. If it sits too long, get it painted and raise the price appropriately.
