Should I Buy A High Mileage 95 4x4
Hey guys I found a 95 four door 4x4 for sale by me. It's white with a grey interior and overall fairly clean. The truck has almost 170000 miles on it. It does run good though and the owner says the trans was rebuilt at 117,000. So what do you guys think? The guy wants 1250 or best offer. Oh yeah one more thing, what kind of gas mileage do you guys get? I get about 16-17 around towninmy 87 with a 350 TPI and a very heavy foot (check the link in my sig)
Thanks, Joe Z

Thanks, Joe Z
If you checked for leaks, test drove, crawled underneath to look at the underside (suspension and other moveable parts that could be really warn, and brakes). It sounds like a good deal. I don't know how much experience you have with purchasing used vehicles, just be carefull. I bought mine used and it was in really good shape but due to the mileage I have had to put a lot of money into it but overall it was a good investment. Since I have joined this site it hasreally saved me alot of money. My gas mileage ranges if unload with just the general stuff like self rescue equipment for offroadingabout 150 lbs.,bag with basic tools, small box with spare fluids another50 lbs.I get about 17-18 in the city (15-16) in heavy traffic or with the a/c onand on the highway anywhere from 20-22 (between 65-70) any faster than 70 and you will deffinately know it.
P.S. Mine is a 99 4 dr. 4x4 and mostly stock except for muffler.

I had bought and 87 and a 94 with between 140-170 thou respectively and the first thing to go was the fuel pump/injector/ filter whatever ( i know nothing about cars so if i called it by the wrong name sorry) both cost me a bundle
Funny my 99 did the samething within a week I lost the fuel pump also. One of those things you can't check when test driving. I to have put a ton of cash into my truck but overall it has been the best offroad vehicle I have had minus the 5-6 grand I've put into it.
i just got my blazer a few months ago...high milage 167,000 on a 99. I called my self checking it out, but as it goes on, things seem to be constantly going wrong, first was the coolant leak at the intake manifold, (the engine and engine compartment had been completely cleaned, so i saw no sign's of a leak, and it had been patched with a stop-leak, which gave way at about 1-month). The Driver's side a-frame bushing's are shot, ( i should have spotted that). Today the stainless steel brake fluid line going to the rear of the truck busted, (due too road salt corrosion, i think). The 4-wheel selector seemed to work all-right when i checked it out, but now is hard to get to go from one selection to another? And lately also i think i have noticed a tranny shudder in final gear at low speeds (around 35-50 mph) Money-pit?? I am beginning too wonder
MindlessCorpse we have something in common 99 4dr.4.3 4x4's that are money pits as I stated in the above post I have something like 5-6 grand in mine. See at the bottom of my post that list, it used to be my soon to be added which some of the parts and pieces I already have but because I have to keep repairing mine I guess it will have to go on the back burner for now. Mine has ate through an A/C compressor, fuel pump, 4 calipers, 4 rotors, 6 brake lines, 3 u-joints, a/c evaporator, condensor, several sensors, alternator (which when it went out it took out the battery), power steering lines, water pump, busted radiator (just broke, not my fault), its had a transfer case switch issue that Kyle helped me figure out, transmission has acted up finally fixed it today (huge pain it but, turned out to be some thing cheap though and easy fix) for now. You name it, its blownand gone wrong, the list grows daily. I was looking atthe bills for my truck and realized I have put more intoitthan I paid forit.I found this site about 2-3 weeks ago and already these guys have saved me a ton with the combination of my post and others post. I am fairly good at working on vehicle and for that reason so far I have been able to save on some labor. I really like my truck but I am really tired of working on it almost daily. I feel your pain!
I have gotte lucky with this 98 jimmy paid around 4 grand and have done jack to it other than replace the tires.....on that same note the fuel pump thing has to be a GM thing cause our Oldsmobile van did the same thing 3 months after we got it...SOB was 800 parts and labor....

If it is in decent shape, then it is worth $1250. I just bought a 95 4wd with 130k on the body, 70k on motor, and 40k on trans, and I paid $2650. Even if it needs a bit of work, 1250 is a good deal.
