taking off in 3rd
I 'm guessing you have a standard tranny? No, taking off in 3rd won't help much since you would have to rev the engine up to get the rpm's high enough to get going. If you try to keep the rpm's down by going easy on the gas, you will wind up lugging the engine which is not good for it over time. The way the Blazer is geared (unless you have a really low ratio rear axle) it's best to work through the gears when starting off.
we couldve guessed that u had an auto in the blazer seeing as how they did not make a 4 dr 2nd gen manual.... you could only get the manual in the 2 door model for the 2nd gen s-10 blazers

The Blazer is more than torquey enough in the low RPM to start in 2nd (for all the 5 speed people)
1st is geared fairly steep... Starting in 3rd is not reccomended, though... the ratio for 3rd is entirely to tall for that...
Maybe with the 3.73's or 4.10s you can do it, but not on a 3.42 or lower
