all of U-haul's tow dollies have surge brakes. you will need a class 3 or better hitch to rent one.

Just go slow and do not use overdrive. I would find a new place to put the spare tire, keeping it underneath when you live in the rust belt is monumentally stupid anyways.

I suggest the Receiver also. But of more concern to me would be a Tranny Cooler. I burned the heck out of my tranny pulling without one. B&M makes the SuperCooler that can be bought through Jegs or Summitracing for around $50. I have one & they work great.

The '97, 205k mile 2WD 4dr. Blazer I bought for $1000 last November had no hitch ever on it. Discovering I needed to pull a small trailer, I scoured Craigslist. Spying what looked like a a hitch on a Craigslist picture of a Blazer for parts, I called & was told that yes, a nice hitch. Price ?, $50.00. After installing the hitch (had to trim bottom of bumper with jigsaw to make fit) I've determined it must be a Reese hitch, class 3. Nice hitch indeed. Looks funny when hooked up to my small 300 pound trailer.

Absolutely get the hitch, You wont regret it. I did and it was the best thing i ever did. I just pulled/flat towed my brothers old 6000lb suburban and old wagon caprice to get scrapped and would have never done it on the bumper. I also used it all winter with a starp hooked up and pulled out about 30 cars/trucks honestly and now have a 4x8 utility trailer i just rebuilt and its deff the best thing ive done. I have the curt round tubular style and have no problems with having a spare. I have this one but bough it off ebay. Etrailer was way to overpriced with the total and shipping Curt Trailer Hitch for Chevrolet Blazer 2000 - C13300

Thanks, I went w/ the Curt 13020 b/c it had a rating of 5K vs the 13300 which has 4k pull. I'm just waiting for it to come in. Etrailer sent me an email today saying that there will be no mod to the spare for it to fit. I'm looking forward to the hitch. My inlaws have a boat so I can pull that this summer and snow mobiles in the winter.

I wish I would have chimed in earlier... Factory Blazer hitch from the junkyard would have allowed you to keep your spare tire where it is now. It's a no drill install too, however you have to pull the bumper and the hitch acts as bumper brackets as well, so you need to remove the original bumper brackets. Took me all of an hour to put mine on my 05 though.

And I imagine, the aftermarket ones as well. I found the installation of the factory design to be a simple affair, I did it alone. Plenty of Blazers dying these days with hitches on them. That's where to look for them, at a third of the price for a new one.
