Default Tune up

i have my blazer. it has 180,000 miles on it and i have to replace the pitman arm and the idler arm. but ,y question is what all do i need to do at such a high milage truck. any thing speical that at a regular mantinace would not generaly get done. just basic stuff to keep it running. the motor was replaced with a new one a few years ago but i dont know when, but every thing els is still old so that might change some stuff any help would be nice. trying to get my FIRST auto all fixed thanks

well if a tune up hasnt been done in awhile i would suggest doing the cap & rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and change all the fluids.

for high milage the blazer is pretty much like any other vehicle. if its a newer motor u shouldnt have to worry about to much. i'm not exactly sure on what has a higher possiblity of goin wrong on a high milage blazer.

high mileage like that you'll want to check a few things that need cleaning. MAF will probably need it, as will EGR valve. Also replace the PCV valve. A seafoam induction cleaning will probably be a good choice too..180k miles of carbon buildup[:'(]

Also check for worn bushings. Control arm, leaf spring, body mounts, engine mounts, tranny mounts (if those are even check-able).

Also might want to consider the starter if it's not too much money (not sure on that cost or neccessity..anyone?)

And belts!!! I think the safe wear is some low number of cracks (5?) per inch or so.

would have the ball joints checked, S10's in general are known to eat ball joints

seafoam, and it's at most parts stores. Run a search on here for 'seafoam' or 'induction cleaning'

Seafoam is in white and redmetal can with a screw onplastic cap. They have it at most auto shops (NAPA, Autozone, etc).

Oh, and it isdefinitelyworth it to get a Chilton Manual. It will tell you how to do just about everything maintenance-wise. It will make tune ups (and repairs)alot easier!

It looks like this.
