Used Hitch question
#1
Hey everyone, I just picked up a hitch off a 96 blazer for only $70! Its got a few rust spots in the common areas but besides that everything looks great on it. My first questions is about the rust spots, only surface rust. Whats the best way to tackle that before I repaint it?
Also when I repaint it, should I just use normal spray paint? Since its mostly hidden I'm not too concerned with how nice the paint is.
Lastly the original bolts and nuts didn't break when the guy took it off the 96 blazer. Would it be wise to replace the nuts and bolts just for the hell of it?

A wire brush works pretty well for taking off surface rust. If you have one, a drill or grinder mounted wire wheel will make quick work of it. You can clean up the nuts and bolts with the wire brush while you're at it. Rustoleum paint should be good for your purposes.

I used a wire brush on an angle grinder. Took it all down to bare metal, primed it, then bed lined mine. Traded 4 light fixtures I took down at work and brought home for it, lol.

$70 for a rusty used hitch is NUTS! maybe its just me from working in the hitch industry as an installer for 5 years (im the BEST) lol yay
anyhow most people get their hitches from a few places, reece being one of the major players. reece rebadges their hitches and sells them to UHaul for next to nothing. i think their retail for a cash n carry hitch is arround the $100 mark here. which is a whole lot cheaper than any company i worked for to supply one, its cheaper than we could get them for!
on the other hand, uhaul mechanics are retards and dont know how to do anything without breaking everything... so cash n carry is a must there. plus they dont use T Connectors... tards.
