V8 Swap Questions/Discussion
#11
I didnt break any housings. I had a 89 chevy 1500 with a v8 swap and a 400 turbo trans. I pruchased it this way not knowing the came with the 4.3 factory. I decided to BLOW the 400 while carrying 3000lb on a trailer and trying to do a burnout at a stop sign. (yes insert "Your an idiot!" here) So after months in searching for a 400 long tail trans i went back to a 700r4 for overdrive. Ended up going through hell finding one after i found a 4l60e thinking it was a 700r4. So hence why i know a little bit about them lol.
I ended up selling the motor (which i need now for my blazer) and scrapping the truck.

haha you were not an idiot you were a kid with a fresh mind

Eh i dont wanna rebuild it. Not when i can get a v8 for 200 bucks and build it for about the same. I just cant afford it right now. I still need mounts, efans etc.
OP. You gonna do a day by day write up on a v8 swap? it'd be cool

Just another question, do you need to change the front coil springs when going to a V-8 to carry the extra weight?

From what I've read so far, it looks like the front will drop about 1" by going to a V8. It's up to the owner if they want to compensate for that, on my 4x4 I could crank the torsion bars to bring it back to stock, for a 2wd maybe coil spacers or stiffer springs would help out.

If you dont like the way it sits, buy some coil spacers. Friend did it in his ranger, worked out good. they are like 10 bucks at autozone too! If you have any direct questions on the swapping you can always pm me. Ive studied it for a few years now. Im going to do a swap in a few weeks and il make sure i take tons of pictures.

I put some of those cheap coil spacers in with a friend of mine on his Bronco.
He drives pretty hard when he gets off road, and they didn't last a day.
I'm not sure if they make a spacer for the ends of the spring, but the ones that go bettween the coils suck in my experience.
But I guess it just depends on your driving.
That Bronco left the ground with all 4 wheels more than once.
