Yet another reason why I love my chevy blazer! Picked up a new spider and getting my zr2 axle and diff rebuilt to go under. She's getting the love she deserves lol.
So yesterday I played hooky and went driving in the woods to check out some locations before putting in for some elk-tags. I wanted to make sure the area had not been clear cut like so many of my old haunts.
Well, I managed to get a flat tire. Ugh. I was trying climb up a slippery slope that was an exit to a small loop few hundred yard long loop off the main road (we have a lot of clay in our soil) and started sliding sideways. I was able to go back down and get out the way I came in. As soon as I got up to the road, I decided to get out of the truck and look around and then I heard and then saw my left rear tire hissing and going flat! I don't know if I lost the bead or if punctured it. I'll find out when I get it to the tire shop to have it checked.
Luckily it happened where it was easy to fix. It could have happened in the mud or I could have driven on it before noticing. It also was in between some large downpours.
The experience has Me even more motivated to install my rear tire carrier as I'd hate to have tried to get the spare out from underneath if I had been in the mud. Also, although it worked, I'd feel more comfortable with a full-sized spare. What i had was a 235/70 instead of my 30x9.5s. (The 30x9.5 wouldn't have fit underneath anyway.)
I was lucky to have had a decent place to change it. I saw no one else on these roads the whole day. It would have been a long walk home.
I hate those stupid undercar spare tire carriers. Sounds like you need to play hooky again tomorrow and get the rear carrier installed, lol. Then you can get a properly sized spare, too.
Glad it wasn't worse than it was. That would have been no fun in deep mud.
Replaced Air Bag Sensors 2000 GMC Jimmy AWD/4WD Auto.
I have been getting intermittent SRS Light on the dash for a while. I suspected the R/L Sensors but they are obsolete from GM. I went to a local junk yard and pulled both sensors from a Bravada. (Drilling out the rivets was a real pain in A&& on the Bravada and on my Jimmy). Junk yard charges $2:00 entry fee and I paid $6:00 each for the sensors. I removed the passenger side sensor first and drilled out the rivet holes to install 1/4-20 Rivnuts. I installed the passenger sensor using 1/4-20 X 0.75 stainless steel truss head screws. Once installed and connected, I went for a test drive and the dash light was on intermittently. Repeated the same steps on the drivers side and currently the dash light is extinguished. I hope the SRS dash light stays off.
Access to the sensors only required the removal of the plastic cover for the oil filter.

YUSSSSs!!! The River was warm, sun was high, we did about 1 mile upstream, pretty much lazyrivered back down to the truck. A MUCH needed day off activity!
I thought I'd get out for more hunting this year, but although I only got a few days to hunt it finally worked out on the second-to-last day of the season getting a decent doe at 50 yards with my Kentucky rifle.
The drive in was a bit challenging because my wheel tracks didn't quite fit the ones by the larger trucks. It also illustrated the need to replace the steering box as trying to stay in the ruts was hard due to it being so loose.
I took some pics on the drive in for my brother in Texas. He is impressed by the snow! LOL
2001 blazer started to have long crank to start and die when driving. Tested battery, starter and alternator. Tests passed. Followed ground leads from battery to frame by right front speed sensor plug and engine block near crank sensor. Removed bolts to ground, cleaned, fastened and starts normally now and more responsive. Going to go around the rest of the engine bay including under battery tray and behind headlights and clean rest of grounds.
Took my Blazer down to my parent's for Christmas/New Year's. (A few hours' trip on a mostly empty highway.) We took a few trips to some shops and a park in a nearby town. It drove pretty dang well for being 20 this year. (Knock on wood )
