I'm assuming you have a second gen ... since you mentioned rubber plugs and that cover ...

It's just an inspection cover - serves no real purpose except to look at the torque converter. Why they put it there, I have no idea. To remove the torque converter bolts you have to remove the starter and go through the starter mount - no other way to do it.

OOPS ... didn't see the post above me ....

Your response was right on target from what I can see. Anyway, as someone really familiar with auto transmissions, what do you think of the Sperm Whale oil suplement?

I used it in my 1977 K10 (TH350), and I also have it in my 2000 Blazer 4WD auto transmission.

It's this stuff, I bought from Napa:
Lubegard and the Whale

I think it's pretty good, can't quantify mileage or temps but I haven't had a transmission fail.

I personally have never used LUBEGARD products.
I am however familiar with the use of sperm whale oil in the automotive industry, which has become a thing of the past.

Lubegard LXE Technology is a synthetic equivalent to Sperm Whale oil. No whales were harmed or made to be dead in the making of our products.

"No whales were harmed or made to be dead in the making of our products."
I don't know why that strikes me as funny.

I say if it works for you, then use it.
I tend to be apprehensive when it comes to using any sort of additives in my vehicles.

You find it funny because you, like most of us here on this board, are REASONABLE human beings. The "green" and "save the planet" crap gets a little out of hand these days. Just the fact that company has to put that statement on their bottle to avoid excoriation from militant leftists, shows how frigged up our society has become.

I'm going to stop there before I get my blood pressure up ....

Oh wait ... that smilie is illegal now ....

You can double check, but I'm pretty sure that statement is not on the bottle. It was from a web page describing their technology. I have written ad copy and such, and would venture that they deliberately used a "funny" syntax. Very smart.

Last time I was excoriated, it took a couple of weeks to heal!

Bought an '01 LT about three weeks ago and it had a dented front bumper and cracked (almost in two pieces) air dam. So in the last couple of weeks I have: duct taped the air dam back together (couldn't stomach spending more on a plastic dam than on a chrome bumper) and plasti dipped it along with the impact strip; ordered a new front bumper, plasti dipped that; ordered diamond cut headlights and clear parking lights; bought Sylvannia silver star ultra bulbs; plasti dipped the bowtie and grill, and painted the little plastic chrome strip across the grill white. Got everything switched out last night. Next will be changing the wheels and hopefully replacing a badly dented passenger side door. Oh yeah, and had to order vanity mirrors with the covers since both covers are currently missing.

Used my low budget harbor freight 9000lb winch to pull a full size van out of the mud uphill 100+ feet. Worked like a champ and I didnt pay 800.00 for it

Came outside in the morning to a nice puddle of oil under the pass side front. Further inspection revealed a torn cv boot! yay!
