To answer your question about the back-lighting; the stock headlamp switch fascia is molded clear plastic that has been painted. What we see as white is white paint on the clear with the black also being paint. This allows the painted symbols to be illuminated by a single incandescent bulb. The light from the bulb is directed to each of the areas through clear-plastic light-guides.

For the switch I added, it has a molded opaque plastic cap that looks white-ish when bare. It is painted all black except for the outline of the fog-light symbol. I took advantage of this to use a very sharp scalpel to cut the long diagonal line through the fog-light symbol. At first I thought I would have wanted the new button to be grey also but I like that it is black and that it is not quite as high above the front fascia of the switch box as the others bits.
I'll do a proper write up with all the gory details of the switch modifications and the circuit I created. I think I've been working on this off and on for over a year. I don't think I could ever recommend anyone do this for themselves unless they get satisfaction from the tinkering itself. But I'm kind of nerdy that way so I don't mind.

I figured "while I'm in there" I might as well install a new ignition switch and bypass the passlock. Next I'll be pulling out the ohm meter and getting some numbers
So its not just my gauges that flip out when the battery is unhooked!
So giving the hare some love lol got my bumper done and made a nice seal around my snorkel
i had found a dr44g alternator and put it on only to find out the bearings are shot so trying to find another or just a rebuild kit
