Well with $4250 as the asking price he's shooting for $4000... offer him $3500 pick at things, look for undercarraige rust, broken DS upper control arms lol j/k, sorta.
Listen to how it starts, revs, revs in gear too, oil & stains on the ground under it etc etc. Listen to the u-joints going into gear, check all the accesories & the 4x4 function, see if it has a G80 code in the glove compartment so you'll know it has a posi rear. Check all the ball joints & grease nipples, front end componants ... tire kick a bit but make sure he knows you have the moola at the ready.

<edit> after I typed all that... look in "The List of Annoying Quirks for Blazers" in here lol

Go look at it. If its as good as you would expect, go at him with 3000 cash in hand, and another 500 in your pocket in case he doesnt bite on that fat wad but make sure you pick away at a few things. Also, make sure its in twenties, it looks like a helluva a lot then and the sight of alot of cash makes some guys hungry for it. If he still wont take your 3500 go to walk away and watch him say "Oh well wait a minute"

Oh that note, I just sold that Alero I have had in my garage for months for TWICE what I paid for it... Christmas here I come! And maybe a lift kit for my new Silverado

I've always found if you talk to the person a little bit before getting in to the numbers, they will come down on the price a bit. Like said above, I'd start off around $3000 and also one of the first questions I always ask is, why are you selling it? And then have the conversation from there.

Here's a thought - put yourself a seller point of view.
What questions would you not like have posed at you about a vehicle?
If someone was buying a vehicle from you, what wouldn't you want them to look at &/or ask?
What would make you uncomfortable?
