Ok so I drive a 1986 Chevy Blazer s-10, 2.8L V6, 4wd.
My problem is that the 4 wheel drive shifts into gear but the front wheels will not engage. I found this out on a really slick snow packed hill in Tahoe and ended up going down the hill backwards against my will!!! In any case I 1 would like to know if this Blazer was supposed to have locking hubs (the previous owner changed the rims and there are now no locking hubs) and if it is where can I get some. 2 If it is not the hubs then what else could it be and is it a cheap fix??
any help would be appreciated

welcome to the forum. no ...no locking hubs are available. There is a vacuum switch on top of the t-case that routes engine vacuum to the front axle actuator...under or neer the battery....which pulls a cable to engauge the front axle ...check all vacuum lines and the cable and actuator.

When my 4 wheel driver wouldn't work it turned out to be a loose wire in my transfer case.

DO you hear a "click" near the front diff when you shift to 4wd?
It's like Lastcoupe said, there is a vacuum switch on the transfer case that directs vacuum to a servo under the battery tray. The servo pulls a cable to engage the axles at the right side of the front diff. You should be able to hear it engage.
Usually it's a loose vacuum hose at the servo....
