My chevy blazer is a 91 four door truck that needs a new motor for the 4 wheel drive to work. Engine is fine. Is there such a thing as a motor for just the 4 wheel drive? If I put it in 4 wheel drive I hear a grinding and humming sound that goes away the second I put it in normal drive. The body is great so Im thinking of putting a new engine in it anyway once it breaks down. What are your thoughts?[X(]

From what I get from your post, I'd say that magnum434 is right on the money. It probably is a weak encoder motor (mounted on the left rear of the transfer case)
Maybe check first to see if the mounting bolts to the motr are loose, maybe it's trying to work but if it's loose it wont fully engage...just a thought.
Let us know what you find.
