Default 96 Blazer- possessed- trouble starting

My son has a 96 Blazer. For about a year we have had sporatic trouble starting it. When it first happened, we were told it was the fuel pump but before we could get it fixed, while it was at the shop- IT STARTED! We drove it for a few months and it happened again. I was also told, if it is the fuel pump, it will not run or will just die. The weird thing is, it only happens every few months. The last time was in the spring. On a whim, my son tried to jump it and it started. We have replaced the alternator, battery, new spark plugs, fuel filter, starting relay. Most recently it has happened again. Jumped it and it started. After warm it will start back up and run fine. But if it sits overnight, it won't start. We just put in an alternator and battery. Today to get it to start, we sprayed starting fluid in the air intake, after a few attempts it started. Someone HELP!

Have a garage check the ignition module in the steering column. I have a 1996 blazer and was having the same issues along with it cutting out while driving. I replaced the fule pump ( very expensive ) and it did not fix the problem. I took it to a local dealer and they found a fault in the ignition system which turned out to be in the steering wheel area. I think the fix cost $200.00 for parts and labor although you might be able to fix this yourself with the right information and tools. Hope this helps

im not sure if this problem is related but i had a problem with my 92 blazer that when i hit the gas it would cut out and almost stall ( it stalled a few times )... after replacing fuel pump and the gas tank, i unplugged the thermostat so now my truck doesnt idle very high... but it runs prefectly now i just have to pump the gas to start it and hold it for a few min to let it warm up...

Have you checked the fuel pressure regulator? It's an inexpensive place to start, along with what capt703 suggested

Hi Fivemillerz,

Did you get this problem resolved. My 96 Blazer is doing the same. In the morning it takes 4-5 attempt to start before it runs. Once running no trouble stoping and starting. It starts on the first crack. Never cut out while driving.

I attempted to change the fuel filter but can not get it loose, have some WD40 on it now...

Thanks,

m.

I just changed mine, and I'd swear it has never been changed. I tried WD-40 and a day later it would still not come loose. I was afraid I was going to kink the fuel line by trying to turn it. Then I tried Liquid Wrench, and I unbolted a relay from the cross-member so that I could get better leverage. It finally came loose the next day.
