Default RE: fuel pump

i just got a call from the mechanic and he said that the pump, strainer, filter, and level sensor all need to be replaced at a total cost of $966 and some change. i asked for the labor cost and he said $360...that works out to $600 for parts. LMC truck offers the same parts for $170 total. a little help please?!?

You can do the repari yourself and save a ton of money.
I paid $280 for a new fuel pump/sending unit for my '00 S10-Blazer. Took about 2-3 hours in my driveway to swap in the new unit. $600 for parts is outragious. Event eh dealer pump is only $350.

If your going to do it yourself, post up and we can walk you through it. Its not hard, but you do have to ge the right part (tag on old unit with correct version of part on it), and you won't know which part (based on tag) to get until the gas tank is out.

Speaking of fuel pumps, I just noticed yesterday that the fuel pump is making a sound like a cellphone on vibrate mode for about 5 seconds after I turn the key off (I assume it's the fuel pump, the noise is coming from the passenger side rear below the floor area).

Is this something it was doing all along and I just noticed it now, or is this a problem ?

mine makes about the same noise. that's just the relay and the motor kicking off.
