Heater Core Replacement.
A few days ago I discovered coolant leaking all over the dash. Thick white fog blowing out of hte vents tells me the heater core is long gone. I have the replacement core, and I've removed the dash. Now I hear I need to actually cut a part out to reach a bolt to remove the housing etc... to get to the core itself. Any recommendations on what to cut it with? The material isn't an issue. Plastic is easy enough to cut. Though the location of the blower, (tucked right up under the hood against the firewall) is a pain. I lost my dremel a while ago. *grumble* It seems as if it'd be the easiest way to cut it with considerations to the space I have to work with. Thanks for the help.
BTW I have a 99 Blazer with the V-6.

We have a fancy little function called "SEARCH" that does the leg work for you...
I did come up with this post FOR you:
Heater Core Replacement
Have a read through the whole post and then take a look at the pictures for what's involved with the tear down. Should be pretty close to yours...

I had already searched the topics for information I needed. The reason I posted was I didn't find it. I own a 99 blazer. Granted most of the teardown was the same. I already finished that by the time I posted. I've removed the dash, and dropped the steering column etc.. I was hung up on a single detail. The blower resistor is covered by a plastic shroud that needed to be cut. Since this is a feature only on 98 and later models that post did not provide what I needed. I was looking for recommendations on how to cut the shroud. Which I just ended up doing with the best guidance I could find. Thanks for the assistance, it may come in handy on reassembly.

[sm=badidea.gif] Don't you just LOVE IT? My heater core just went out on my 98, and this is a job I cann't do on my own, so I am looking at some big money and hope who ever does this job for me knows how to put everything back together right or there will be more issues to deal with. WHY did GM put the core BEHIND the firewall???? For now I just removed the 2 hoses and looped them together. I have "heard" that once one thing goes on the cooling system, everything else will go ONE BY ONE.....[&o]
Funny I have a love hate thing going with this blazer....... If I myself didnt have bad luck, I would have NO luck at all.... Got nailed 3 times within a week with tickets... [sm=guilty.gif] At least on 2 of them they are on the same day just different court houses and different times! Gotta get her painted she is RED RED...[sm=smiley35.gif]
