I have 2001 LS Chevy Blazer which I love, however my rear hatch will only open about 20% of the time from the inside. The majority of the time I have to use the keyless entry in order to access my trunk. Is this a short? When I press the botton inside I hear it like it is unlocking and on my dashboard I get the message gate adjar but when I get out to open my trunk it isn't open.

It sounds like the actuator is working if you can use your remote.
Do you hear the actuator click when you push the button inside?
It just seems wierd that you push the button and the indicators show the hatch is open, but it's not.
I almost wonder if the wire is loose on the back of the interior switch.
