Default spare tire holder

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this question? I had to change a flat on my 98 blazer and used my spare, the problem is my regular wheel didn;t fit in the holder under the truck so I wound it up. I guess it was too far because I can not get it too lower back down. The cable seems to be bound up in the box. Any suggestions to my problem of getting it to lower again.

Default RE: spare tire holder

Have you tried to pull down on it while you turn the handle out the back (probably easier with a friend)? I think I remember doing something like this with my old S10 ('85) and I think all we did was pull down on it and turn the crank handle and it finally came loose. You may have to tighten, then loosen if it has packed up in there quite good, but tighten with someone hanging on the end, then loosen with them still on there.

I have tried this , but not with a friend, I will try to shoot it with "wd-40", also. Just am hoping it isn't a lost cause and have to replace the whole unit.
