starter solenoid??

I believe a starter solenoid is located directly on the battery and to get a new one you have to buy a new starter.

Btw, your looking at about 50 bucks for a cheap one, a starter probably runs about 80 bucks (Im guessing about the starter price, I know the older 4.3ls are cheap)
Yes, the solenoid is mounted on the starter motor. I would agree that it's probably a good idea to replace the whole starter. I just think that if the solenoid is failing, that the starter motor is the same age and also has worn brushes.
Why pull the starter off twice, just replace the whole thing once and forget about it.

I am truly sorry for saying battery, I meant starter but was thinking about myself having to buy a battery today....brain fart on my part. really didn't mean to put battery....I was reading and thought "what dummy would say it's on the battery but say to replace the starter" then saw that I posted that. Ha You can kinda tell I meant starter since i said you would have to buy a new starter and mentioned nothing about the battery. anyway, it's fixed now.
