Default Valves hanging open

Hey everyone. I have a problem with a 99 Blazer. I just replaced the head gaskets on it and when I bolted everything back up and tried to start it it had NO compression. I removed the valve covers, and sure enough none of the valves are closing. the rockers are a positive stop style and I torqued them to 20lb/ft. I have no idea why this has changed. Has anyone ever heard of this before? The only thing I can think of is the lifters are not bleeding down. Any other Ideas?

Default RE: Valves hanging open

So you removed the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, then the heads? I know there is a lot more to it... Did the lifters or valve springs ever get removed?

I guess it is possible that the lifters aren't bleeding down properly... How long did the vehicle sit before repairing the blown head gasket?

I'm guessing that you changed the oil after your repair. If the engine sat for a long time I would leave the spark plugs out and crank the engine for a minute to circulate the oil, stop cranking for a couple of minutes to allow the starter to cool down and repeat this a few times to see if things start working properly after the oil has been pumping thru the engine. I'ts possibly a oiling problem in the lifters, but try this a few times and see if it works.
Let us know.
