Default Weird starting

i have a 1995 4wd 2dr auto blazer with the 4.3 vortec. When the engine starts it hesitates for a second or two. when you turn the key it cranks pauses for a second or two the cranks more until it starts. Also, when the car has been sitting for a while without being started espically outside it takes a a lot of cranking to start and it usually starts only once you stop cranking then start again. could it be time for a tune up? i bought it used about a year ago and it has 75000 miles and i don't know if the previous owner did anything. thank for your help.

I have the same problem with my 88. I don't know whats wrong with it, I got a brand new battery and it still does it. But my spark plugs and distributor cap and everything looks fine. All clean. And I usually have to crank it for a couple seconds, stop, then crank it again before it starts also. A fix to this would be nice.

My starter did the same thing as it went bad, rode it out for a few months actually, ended up changing it and starts fine now. It is a pain to change the starter, expecially if you have a 4wd. You have to loosen the passenger side engine mount enough for that side of the motor to move upward a little with a jack. The starter will come out with some wiggling, the wires are easiest to disconnect by reaching through the wheel well, still not an easy task, just the easiest way to access them. Be sure to disconnect the battery before working on the starter!

He thanks for the input. I am in the process of moving from ct to va and i still have yet to move my tools down yet like a jack. I am wondering how much it would cost for me to bring it to a shop or dealership to fix the starter problem if that is it. I am going to college soon and want the car to be in good shape so i don't havet o worry about it.
