I have been having a host of driveability issues and the minor things I have done just don't seem to be an effective cure. [sm=dontgetit.gif] I have completed the following list:
cap, rotor, plugs, wires, cleaned the TBI, cleaned the EGR valve, changed the oil and filter, seafoamed the engine and drove her hard and fast for two hours.
So, I have come to the conclusion that I need to change my catalytic converter.
My question is; does anyone have a preferred model or brand of replacement cat? What has been your experience with your brand/model and, should I also replace the muffler while I am in there? Also, any recommendations for cat back systems?
BTW, I will get the codes checked to see if there is anything there before I change the cat.

Sorry if I am not answering your question but what do you plan to accomplish when you change it?

My rationale is that changing the cataltic converter is the last step in getting the vehicle to perform at its maximum. As mentioned, the minimal changes listed above, proved effective but I know this vehicle should perform much better.
What I hope to achieve, better gas mileage, better acceleration, smoother idle. This vehicle has less than 60k miles and was owned by a older gentleman who only used it to take his dogs to the park. So, although it is not high mileage, and has been well taken care of, it just doesn't perform as I believe it can.
Based on my experience with two previous vehicles, after changing the cat, the car seemed to come alive. Also, I figure that a 15 year old cat is far past its useable life span.
Any recommendations?

Sorry 4lowlife--I live in California, cannot run without a catalytic converter.

id get a dynomax high flow cat, I am ordering one this weekend, same problems and repairs you have done, have you changed the o2 sensor yet?

There is a reason to my madness. This is a 15 year old vehicle with less than 60k miles. It should perform much better than it does. If my hunch is right, the cat and muffler are just old and rusted. The other work that I have done should have provided much more benefit than it did. This is the last component.
