Default CAI on 85 s15 jimmy

I have a 1985 s15 jimmy that is carbureted, it has the air cleaner assembly that has a plastic tube that attaches beside the radiator to draw cold air in while you are going down the road, if i take this off, and if i would want to put a cone filter on this, would putting a cone filter on and taking the round original one out of the air cleaner affect anything? I know i would have to add like a 22 degree tube to get the filter far enough away from the master cylinder, and if the filter wouldn't cause any problems i would add the original tube from the front of the cone filter to the original spot beside the radiator.

Shouldn't cause any issues but I would build a shroud out of sheet metal to isolate it from the engine heat.
