Default Cold air intake for 2nd gen

I have a 99 jimmy and i want to get an intake for it to maybe get a little bump in mpg/power but mainly i just like the throaty sound it has with an intake. does anyone have a recommendation on intake? i know K&N make full intakes as well as just filter replacements, but what is the difference between a full K&N intake setup and a cheap ebay setup with a K&N filter stuck on the end of it? i guess my concern is spending $225 vs $35 for a piping kit and crappy filter, and spending rougly $50 more to buy a K&N cone filter for the end of it. anyone here upgraded their intake and happy with what they bought? i understand the stock one is not a bad setup, but i kind of want to get a little more pronounced engine tone on acceleration.

thanks
justin

If you search cold air intakes you will find all kinds of info on here about them. Cheap CIA do not come with heat shields so essentially you are sucking hot air from your engine into your intake. K&n and aem come with shields, I did see a kit on eBay for $70 with a heat shield but idk if it's still there or not.
