cold air intake during winter=bad idea?

Rotti, you're showing your age! Those intake systems were designed to reduce/eliminate carburetor ice up. Used to happen in 30F to 50F with high humidity. Air speeds up through the venturi and ice would form reducing the diameter of the venturi. Fuel flow was not affected so it loaded up and it would usually flood and stall. Glad those days are gone

MY age? What about yours?! I mean it did warm the air and would help with warm up, would it not?
You just can't play the role of being all wise etc all the time there Chuckles. lol

& BTW I'm only 29 - (with 15 years experience!)

I pretty much agree with everyone else here, the IAT should read down to -40 and adjust accordingly.

Air gets 1% denser for every 14* it drops, and your IAC valve should close a few clicks to account for that at idle so dumping alot more fuel shouldn't be a problem.

most importantly it is a COLD air intake, what better way to get that then having it in on the winter?

As far as the throttle freezing, I have only heard of that on old carburated cars when around 30* in high humidity the venturi would ice up and dump alot of fuel stalling an engine out, I've driven fuel injected vehicles in about the coldest weather in the lower 48 and never had anny issue with that.
