Default Flowmaster super 40 install

I got a new flowmaster super 40 and have waited weeks for my mechanic to be available to install it so I thought I might do it myself. I know I'm gonna need the flange. Can I just cut it off the muffler I have on it now? Cause I'm probably not gonna use it after. And I noticed the new muffler is noticeably smaller (about half the size) of the stock muffler. Would I have to extend the tailpipe to fit it or could I bend it so the exhaust comes out before the rear wheel?
