Gutting Cat
Popped P0420 and ran some tests in the auto lab at school, and my cat isnt working anymore. If i gut it will it be louder? i have a flowmaster 40 on it right now.

I take it you don't have emissions testing where you live. It'll probably be louder if that's what you're looking for. My cat was gutted before I bought the truck (94 model) but we have vehicle inspections every year here in Texas and it was pumping out like 3 times the NOx that was the max allowed. So I replaced it. Not that expensive. Personally I think the less pollutants we put out the better off we are. Your choice. I say just fix it.

you CAN gut a cat, but the results aren't all that great:
seriously: if you live in a place that doesnt have emissions standards/testing, you could gut the cat, or just chop it and replace it with a pipe. Plant a couple of trees next time you are out hunting and you can feel better as the earth slowly dies....
OR you can replace it with a hi-flow after market or universal aftermarket and not run the risk of being saddled with the fines/black eye that comes from a federal crime (tampering with a cat) and no constant SES light soyou will know when the rest of your engine takes a dump before you blow a rod through your hood....
