Headers and Exhaust

Headers and Exhaust
I have a 98 Blazer 4x4 with the V6 262 engine.
My performance is horrible. I want to replace the headers and exhaust.
I have narrowed it down to
JBA Headers Model 1842-6 (with the air injection)
MagnaFlow MPE-94006CA Cat Converter
Gibson GIB-14500 Cat Back Exhaust
Could someone verify that these will all work together in my application? Also, how much of an improvement from stock do you think I will gain with this?
The headers should come with gaskets.
What else would I need to get that I didn't list?

RE: Headers and Exhaust
Unless your cat is shot don't wast money on a new one you won't notice a performance gain. Other than that it looks good. you may need a new y-pipe to accomadate the headers but I don't know if they will bolt straight to the old y pipe or need a new one.

RE: Headers and Exhaust
TommyD,
The JBA headers are "shorty" headers and will use the stock "Y" pipe. But I would recomend that PawNtheSandman replace the "Y" pipe since it is the biggest restriction before the cat in the system. If you look at the "Y" pipe and cat setup you will notice that the factory cat has larger in/out than the pipes in the system so making the system all one diameter will help in top end horsepower... Many owners go to a 3" system overall but that would depend on the HP numbers of the motor.
Dynomax catalogue pages 6-7 has a table of exhaust pipe dia vs cu in./HP of the engine to let you know the proper size of your system, according to my research for my Nissan exhaust the max I should install was a 2.25" system since i was less than 150hp. So the size for a stock system on the 4.3L (262) should be 2.5" at the largest with mandrel bends, I have read/heard that you can go to a 3" system with crush bends, because the crush bends would equal to a 2.75" volume. So there you have a small lesson in sizing but go check out the dynomax exhaust site.
Oh and all the parts will work together since there are no computers coded to restrict parts replacement...LoL
