That stuff will work, but how well it works is dependent upon how well you prep the area. Rough the crack and surrounding area around the entire pipe with some coarse sandpaper, then clean it with acetone or rubbing alcohol. Fill the crack and cover the surrounding area around the pipe with the putty, then tightly wrap the bandage around the pipe. Hold it in place with several pieces of wire. Wet your fingertip and run it around the edges where the bandage meets the pipe to form a bead/seal. Run/Drive the truck for 45 minutes to an hour, then let it sit overnight so the putty/bandage can cure. After that you can remove the wire or leave it on - that's up to you.

 

I've used these clamps to fix stuff like that and to attatch exhausts because they don't deform the pipe and make removal easy. They work very well (when the proper size is purchased)
