Question on Headers...
I've had my 99 blazer 2WD (4 door LT) since April, and i'm thinking about saving up for an upgrade of some type... My decision is between headers (performance upgrade in general) or a pushbar/brushguards (visual upgrade). My dad seems to think that putting new headers on the engine involves lifting the engine itself out of the car... is this true? can the headers be installed without removing the engine?
I was also wondering what you guys thought about a performance upgrade... what do you think is the best upgrade (makes the biggest increase in horsepower or fuel economy) for the best price?

Welcome to the forum! I've got a buddy who goes to the Art Institute down in yoru neck of the woods. As for the installation of headers, you should be able to get them in fairly easily from removing the wheels and the wheel wells. Thats what I found on my research for installing headers. As for HP gains from headers, there isn't much to be had. Best place to start is a CAI, catback exhaust, and/or PCM tune. All are fairly inexpensive compared to headers. Search around on the forum and you'll find more info on these mods. Costs, time, recommended brands, etc.

Had a full size truck with the 5.3L and put the JBA headers on and was amazed at the power gains, so when the right manifold started leaking I ordered a set for the Jimmy, big mistake.
You will fight, kick, knaw, punch, cry and have a bout of depression getting headers in. They sound nice but its not a seat of the pants bolt on for this truck.
