(atleast two inches). i got the offset rims (4 inch backspacing) and now i rub at the bottem quarter panels. everybody says you can do 31s with the shackle lift but im rubbing with 30s. could my shocks be toast?

Could be the tires themselves. Just because they say 30, doesn't mean that they're actually 30 inches tall. They could be taller than you think.

i would lower your tbar crank. 1.5" max or you will probly regret it. the reason your rubbing is because your rims are backspaced to mcuh. take a picture to show us exactly where there rubbing would help. you might need to do a little trimming

It's your wheels. The 30's should fit on your stock wheels without any modification. If you're willing to cut your fenders, they should fit. I put on 31x10.5 on 4" backspacing and they rubbed in the same spot you mentioned. Even after tbar crank, I still had to cut to get them to fit. There are several ways of doing it and some look better than how I did mine

why do so many people think shocks contribute to suspension lift?

all they're designed for is controling your suspension travel.

and Matt said it best, it's all because of your off-set. i an fit a 245/65/R17 on my stock suspension '98 with just minor touching at hardlock when entering steep diveways. (those tires are 29.53" in diameter)
