JSMZ,
exactly right. My truck is already sagging and I think cranking the weak and worn out stock bars is a waste of time and energy.

I read in a thread somewhere that there are perhaps 3 different t-bars for the ZR2. Anyone got the numbers for these so I can try and find some....probably ebay...

As for rear springs - will the ZR2 springs work in the rear...? If not that add-a-leaf thing might be fine. The rear is really weak, but I don't want this thing up too much.

The front ball-joints have already been replaced, but I can't tell who from. I'd probably replace them all when it's time to do this. Can you recommend the names of a few brands for these that work well on this truck....?

What is the procedure for replacing the torsion bars....? I don't have the special tool for them so is that something you 'must' have to do this right and be safe about it...? I've never messed with T-bars before so this is all new to me. I have read instructions and seen pictures, but like anything the first time you do it.....there are usually surprises.

Thanks for the info folks

jsmz - your truck has the stance I am looking for.

Anyone know how to do a roll pan on this thing and where to source the lower rear fender when you do...? I really want to improve the departure angle.

Part Number Bar Dia. NOM Torque
LH 15956501 26.63mm 1052
RH 15956502 26.63mm 1052
LH 15956503 27.94mm 1276
RH 15956504 27.94mm 1276
LH 15956505 29.36mm 1450
RH 15956506 29.36mm 1646
LH 15956509 30.69mm 1883
RH 15956510 30.69mm 1883
LH 15956511 32.51mm 2305
RH 15956512 32.51mm 2305

the weight is wrong on the 29.36 bars... dunno which one is right. The bigger bars are nice but come with demons. if you look around in this thread youll see.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/lifting-tech-44/put-my-zr2-torsion-bars-today-38250/

here is how to do it. a two jaw puller works in place of the "special tool". biggest surprise your going to get is if you let the 2 pound metal key fall on your face.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/lifting-tech-44/t-bar-install-38648/

dont know about the zr2 leaf springs yet. if you find out, let me know.

With ball joints Id stick with one of these three: 1) power performance(Best& super xpensive), 2) Moog(good), 3) TRW(just as good as moog& cheaper)

I looked into a roll pan for about 10 minutes once, then realized id have to put my spare in the blazer, or on top.. not going to happen here.

I hear ya on the roll pan. Perhaps the lift will give me the departure angle I seek.

How hard was the body lift to install and did you encounter any unforseen issues...?

Is it the upper ball-joint this is at issue here or is the lower one the weak link..? Both have been replaced on mine, but I don't know when (done before I got it at 195,000mi). I'll probably replace them all just to be sure it's done right.

What about suspension travel....? I'm sure I read that using the stock upper arms can limit travel...? What is the alternative...? I didn't find any for the 4wd that weren't part of a kit.

Lots of questions....but I'm hoping to start gathering parts real soon.

body lift is easy, just follow the instructions. i did it by myself in a few hours.

i have never had issues with ball joints. i treat ball joint replacement on IFS as a 50,000 mile maintenance item. so i really dont know.

i dont have any issue with suspension travel either, my only issue is the alignment cams are maxed out. right where mine sits is a pretty happy spot as far as all that stuff goes.

I think since it seems pretty hard to find used ZR2 parts I'll do the following...

-get some lower-mile used, stock torsion bars and crank them up and see how that goes.

-get a add-a-leaf kit for the rear. My rear springs need help.

-look at what clearance I have then and if that isn't making me happy then -

-2" body lift

I will be replacing the ball joints before I do anything on the front....the ones in there now are not the originals, but I want everything spot-on before I start modifying stuff.

FOR THE RECORD-
My truck = '99 LS 4WD 4DR Blazer w/ 209,000miles.

height is measured at axle/spindle centerline at the wheel opening....

Front 32"
Rear 31.25"

This is sitting on 235/75R-15 ATs.

as far as raising the rear, why not just put a longer shackle kit on it?

^^^

You must ahve missed where I stated the springs are weak.

With new shocks the truck still dives and raises on brake/accel in front and the rear can't handle any weight. A shackle is less than a band-aid.

I don't want to be a thread pirate here.

But while we are on the subject, and for the sake of not creating a new thread.

I was wondering if this AAL will work for my ZR2. I know the ZR2 has different leaf springs, and this only guarantees it will fit an 03' Blazer. No mention of ZR2.

http://www.jcwhitney.com/ADD-A-LEAF_...2005974;true;0

I read one of the customers reviews just now. Says he owns a 02' S10 ZR2. Said it worked just fine, but I just want to be sure.

Any opinions?
