Default 02 Blazer LS 4WD, new alternator, new battery, not charging

I recently had to replace my alternator because it stopped charging the battery, which is a couple of years old but is a 5-year battery. I recharged the battery with a slow charge overnight, and replaced the alternator with a new, not remanufactured one, and when I installed everything, the car cranked and the alternator was showing 14+ VDC. I don't drive the car every day so when I would crank it and let it run, to keep it lubed, it would run, 14+ VDC on the in-car voltmeter. I went out the other day it wouldn't crank. I used the battery charger to crank it and let it run for 5-6 minutes. When I tried to drive it, it would pull of and run until it was stopped. Then the voltmeter in the car would drop to about 5 VDC and shut off. What would I need to check to find out what is going on?

  1. Make sure all your connectors are clean and tight
  2. inspect the cable from the alternator to the battery
  3. Have the battery load tested
  4. If all that’s good have the alternator tested although an intermittent problem might not show up
