Default 2001 Blazer, DRL-Fuel Gauge problem (?)

Bought this Blazer back in March, 2014. Currently has 127K miles on it. The Fuel gauge has been erratic ever since we purchased this truck. Reading Low Fuel with the needle all the way @ empty even after the tank was filled. Replaced with new (NAPA) fuel pump several weeks ago and still had problems. So I removed the dash cluster & noticed a cracked solder point on the back where that gauge mounts to the board. Fixed that and did not see any other problems with traces or other connection points. Now the Fuel Gauge works in the daytime, but not at night: goes back to the Low Fuel & needle pinned to empty. Is this somehow wired into the DRL sensor? All other interior & exterior lights & gauges are functioning properly. Anybody else experience this? I suppose I should cover the sensor in daylight & see if that makes the gauge read wrong? But then, what is the fix for this? Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks!
