88 K5 no crank when hot
Hi All,
I have an 88 k5 that does not crank when hot. Things I have done:
1) new starter and solenoid
2) painless Hotshot hot start kit
3) engine block to firewall ground strap
4) swapped battery
I noticed my battery ground goes to the frame rail and not to the block, my next move is to replace it with new wire and go to the block.
I figure I will replace the positive wire at the same time (battery to starter)
Does anyone have any advice? When the truck engine is cool it fires up reliably.
Thank You
RickT

In addition: I would keep a strap to the frame rail. Some things may depend on that.
This is happening only when hot. Hmm:
you have replaced the starter solenoid. You mean the one on the starter itself? (that would normally be part of the starter)
How about the relais in the starter circuit?
Do you have the wiring diagram?
what comes to my mind:
- relais
- ignition switch (check for amperage)
- splice blocks and fuse holders (had once one broken but held in place on the plastic. only on some moves it would not make contact.)
- measure voltage AND current at the starter motor cables.
- cabling from iginition switch to starter solenoid.
Somebody else which cares to expand?
