Big 3 question

the engine block ground on these things are a small little braided wire, so replacing that with a larger wire really helps.
And mounting it on the alt bracket grounds the block perfectly. Glad it worked for ya.

This morning in the dark with truck running headlights, radio, heat on I turned on all my roof lights, voltage dropped maybe 2 volts and the lights dimmied. Gave it gas and lights got brighter but then started to smell hot wires, not bad but I shut everything off and everything still looks fine. Stock alt, maybe I need a higher amp. one? Thoughts?

I'd say double check all the wiring you've done. Good connections, good grounds. Are the wires for the lights sized properly? etc. I'd look at the wiring before throwing a higher amp alternator on there.

Think I found it. I have no relays but have 5heavy switches and one cheaply switch with lighter wire. Tinkle it was that one getting hot. Will try again without that one on. Getting a winch soon and will need a bigger alt eventually

Chris, yes they are fused and yes Iam putting relays on. I was using a block I got fron an electrician at work. One power wire to it and all the switch wires on the other side. Today when I got home from work I opened the hood turned the lights on and watch the jumpers on the block get red hot and the plastic block started to melt and smoke, Yikes. So that set up is getting yanked. Just bought some relays. Will I have to run a separate power wire for each relay? And I`ll be able to use smaller wire on the switch side, right?
Not to good at this electrical stuff, better with mechanical stuff. one more question, do I have to use the ground on the relay or can I use the one I have from the lights to the body?
