Do the parking lights work? I would start checking the brake light switch under the dash

It is usually located at the end of the brake pedal. Basically it is a little sensor the tells your lights that your brake pedal has moved. sometimes they need to be re-adjusted. My brother had the same problem on his car. Just make sure to not over correct it because your lights will stay on non stop even with the key out.

its located under the dash behind the brake pedal. if you are looking up under the dash, at the brake pedal/arm. The switch should be gray or white
