Brightest/widest halogen bulbs?
I'm deer paranoid, so I'm always looking to increase my night field of view. I've seen the GE Nighthawk and Sylvania Silverstar talked about, is there any feeling out there as to which is the brightest and/or widest field? Or is there a better choice? I'm not interested in the HID or "kit" stuff. Just direct replacement stuff.

You won't get anything wider with a stock bulb, but osram and phillips make some of the best bulbs, GE is probably a good choice too. Sylvania is just full of s*** when they say XX% brighter and XX% wider. Your best bet would be overpowered bulbs like 90W/100W instead of 55W/60W that come stock. Just plug right in, but draw a lot more power, so your stock wiring may be subject to... um... well... fires... If you don't upgrade to a relay harness.

I had silverstars for low beams and they did help visibility, but mostly because they are a whiter light than standard bulbs I think. I don't think they helped field of view at all. Driving lights perhaps may work best for you...

HIR Headlights 9011 9012 bulbs
Because the filament geometry is identical in size, shape, placement, support position etc, cars that call for 9005 bulbs in their headlamps can take the HIR1 (9011) and cars that call for 9006 bulbs can take the HIR2 (9012). A quick and easy modification to one tab on the base is all that is required.
